The Beginning of the End

Although I've been working on this, quit-battical/change-of-career plan for awhile, it's hard to believe that tomorrow will actually be my last day at Roche.

I've started saying my goodbyes and yet still feel a bit in denial that on Monday morning, Chris won't buzz me in the front door and no one will stop my my office to ask me how my weekend was.

On Wednesday, Marilyn, my boss, hosted a party for me at her house. It was a lovely affair that was much easier for me to think of it as a pre-summer barbecue than the last chance I will have to see people I have worked closely with for the past 3 years and 8 months (and 9 days if you really must know).

Tomorrow is my last day in Alameda and, while I'm excited about what's to come, I'm kind of nervous about it. There will be a pot-luck lunch in the conference room and I'm afraid I might start crying before I even walk through the door. But you know what, I've connected with people there and I'm sad to leave so, as my friend Leslie Gore said, "it's my party and I'll cry if I want to"! There's always the after-party at the local tiki bar, Forbidden Island to lift my spirits.

Stay tuned for the final wrap-up and preview of the adventure to come. Can you say documentary film?

I knew you could.
